The following information goes into slightly more detail with regards to using KEWPAT to Manually Record PAT Test Data.  It will also touch on some of the points listed above with regards to using SimplyPats Manual Plus Edition software as well as showing examples of available PAT Reports and Certification.

Recording PAT Test Data using KEWPAT1) Select Customer

Data needs to be stored against a Customer. You can either select an existing Customer from the list, or add a new Customer from the Customers Menu.

2) Enter Site and Location

Text entered into the Site and Location fields are carried over to the next test until changed, with both fields supporting the “Quick Select List” feature or standard text entry.

3) Enter Appliance Id

KEWPAT supports the scanning of Barcodes and QR Codes* using the rear facing camera on your device. If you want to enter an Appliance Id from a PAT Label for example, press the SCAN button and position your device so it can scan the barcode.

*Only QR Codes on labels generated and printed out by KEWPAT using a compatible printer are supported. You will also need to be using a device with a reasonable rear facing camera which ideally has autofocus in order to reliably scan barcodes or QR Codes.

Appliance Id’s can also be entered manually via the keyboard, and KEWPAT includes a setting under Test Settings so you can choose which keyboard is displayed by default. The Standard Keyboard would be used if you are using Alpha Numeric Appliance Id’s (ABC123), while the Numeric Keyboard would be the best option if using Numeric only Appliance Id’s (123456).

By default the Appliance Id is automatically incremented by one digit when moving onto a new test, however there may be times where you would want the Appliance Id field to be cleared after each test. Deleting an automatically generated Appliance Id is time consuming, so there is an option under Test Settings to Clear the Appliance Id Field after each test.

4) Enter Appliance Description

The Appliance Description field also supports the “Quick Select List” feature as well as standard text entry.

While the Appliance Description is cleared by default after each test, you do have the option of overriding this via the Test Settings screen. This may be useful when testing large number of IEC Leads for example, meaning that the Appliance Description gets carried over, negating the need to enter it again for each test.

5) Select Test

If you are using KEWPAT in Manual Entry mode with the Kewtech EZYPAT or EZYPAT Plus you will only be interested in the CLASS I, CLASS II, PRCD and IEC/Ext buttons. Select the relevant option for the type of Appliance you are testing.

Kewtech SMARTPAT users have access to the Smartpat option allowing them to control the PAT Tester in Remote Mode and carry out automatic or user defined Test Sequences, with the Test Results being displayed in KEWPAT in real time and stored in the database.

6) Extra Information

An optional screen that can be turned On or Off during the Test Process via System Settings.

If turned On, the Extra Info screen appears after selecting the Test Type and allows you to enter Make, Model, Fuse Rating, Appliance Serial Number (Barcode scanner support), Price / Repair Codes and Notes.

7) Visual Questions

An optional screen that can be turned On or Off during the Test Process via System Settings.

If turned On, the Visual Questions screen appears after selecting the Test Type, or after the Extra Info screen if that screen is set to be displayed.

The Visual Questions screen should be used where you need the option to carry out and record the Status of individual Visual Checks on an Appliance. The Visual Questions are based on the COP 4th Edition recommendations. If this is the case, then the Overall Visual Test Status option on the Test results screen will not be displayed.

If this screen is turned OFF and set not to be displayed during the Test Sequence, you can still record an Overall Visual Check on the Test Results screen, as shown in the image below.

8) Record the Test Results

Various fields on the Test Results screen will change depending on the type of test being carried out, however they all contain editable fields for Test Limits, Test Results, Test Status, Visual and Electrical Retest Periods and Notes.

By default the Status for Each test is set to PASS, with the Test Result being automatically set to either Greater than (>) or Less than (<) the displayed Limit.

Limits and Results can be edited by directly typing in a new value, or by selecting a value from the Quick Select List option. Either way, the Test Status will automatically be updated to reflect possible changes.

9) Cable Resistance and Risk Calculator and Retest Periods

KEWPAT includes a handy tool to work out the Cable Resistance by selecting the length and Cross Section Area of the cable. The Earth Continuity Limit is then carried over the Test Results screen, where the result displayed on the tester can be entered.

The Risk Calculator can be used to give an indication of an Appliances expected Retest Period based on the type of Equipment and the Environment it is used in, however these are only a guide. We would always recommend that a Full Risk Assessment be carried out by a qualified person prior to any Electrical Safety Testing.

You can of course select a Retest Period manually for both Visual and Combined Tests.

10) Taking pictures of Appliances

KEWPAT is capable of using your Rear Facing Camera to take pictures of Appliances, which are included in the Dedicated SimplyPats Database Backup Export file, however just be mindful that the file size of the exported data may be too large to send by email if you take a lot of photos. If you are transferring data via a Cloud Folder or WiFi to PC, this should not be an issue.

11) Printing a PAT Label

KEWPAT includes over 10 different PAT Label Templates which include Barcode and QR Code options. In order to print labels, you will need a compatible Bluetooth Printer such as the KEW-80L.

After recording a test by going through the process above press Save to add the Appliance to the Database.

Using SimplyPats with KEWPAT

SimplyPats V7 Manual Plus Edition and Downloading Edition software for Windows PC both support the import of data from KEWPAT and offer a great solution for those users who require more advanced Data Management, Report Generation and Invoicing.

One of the main selling points for SimplyPats will be the Data Management and Reporting features, however given that KEWPAT is also capable of importing data from SimplyPats it means that users also have similar features found on Downloading PAT Testers which also support Upload capability.

The advantages of this are twofold: If existing data has been cleared from the App, users have the ability to upload data back to the App for Retesting, but they can also upload the data to a different device in the future.

Features at a glance include:

  • Import data from KEWPAT (including Photos). Data can be transferred via Email, Cloud or cable depending on device.
  • Customer Details are automatically populated ready to be included on any Reports.
  • Export data back to KEWPAT, ideal for Retesting if the data has been cleared from the device, or a new device is used.
  • Access to a large number of professional looking Reports.
  • Invoicing, with support for Price and Repair information recorded using KEWPAT.
  • Ability to Manually Enter or Edit Data
  • Correct any errors and bulk change certain data such as Appliance Descriptions or Retest Periods for example.
  • Focus on certain appliances by using Search, Group and Sort options.
  • View Retest Dates or Overdue Appliances.

Importing KEWPAT Data into SimplyPats

Importing data from KEWPAT into SimplyPats Manual Plus Edition or Downloading Edition is pretty straight forward. You first create an Export Database file in KEWPAT from the Memory options screen then transfer the file to your PC via Email, WiFi, Cloud Folder or Cable depending on device and services available.

In SimplyPats you will use a dedicated import screen to select the data you want to import together with any photos you have taken.

With the data imported you will have access to all of the features and functionality that SimplyPats offers. You also have the option to save the data into a new SimplyPats Data File or Add / Merge into an Existing Data File.

Managing PAT Test Data in SimplyPats may vary depending on whether you are carrying out In-House PAT Testing, or PAT Testing as a Contractor.

As mentioned, SimplyPats Data Files can also be Imported back into KEWPAT, which is a similar solution to that found on certain Test Meters where the upload of data back to the tester is supported.
